Scarborough Faire 2008 Galleries

Characters 2008 : Basically, this is the hired help. This album contains pictures of the Scarborough Academy, at least as I much as know that they are. Some of the "characters" may end up in the Costumes album if I don't know they are part of the academy, and some of us 'regulars' may get put here because I've seen them so often I'm assuming they're part of the academy. I'll put the names of the character in the title, if I know it, and in at least one of the pictures of an character I'll put the actor's name, if I can find it out. Look in the Performers album for pictures of those that put different acts. You know if they are a performer if they ask for a donation after their performance.

Costumes 2008 : Not only does the cast dress up in period garb, but so do the customers, especially the season ticket holders. Some costumes are simple and some are very elaborate. Here is a small sampling of the costumes you might see on any given weekend.

Joust 11:00 am 2008 : The eleven o'clock performance starts off as just that - a performance, with a little pageantry at the beginning followed by tests of skill. The tests of skill comprise of knocking an object off of a pedestal, the quintain, and snagging stationary and tossed rings with a lance. The final performance was a simplified joust. Since the participants weren't fully armored, the number one rule was that blood could not be spilled. Unfortunately, this is were things went sour. One of the knights would be unhorsed, take offense, and start a bit of a brawl. The other two knights would join in, and the nobles, well didn't act so noble. Eventually, reason ruled, and tempers were reigned in. To take the contest to the next level, a joust was agreed upon. Again, the first rule was that no blood was to be shed.

Joust 2:00 pm 2008 : The second joust of the day starts off fairly where the earlier one left off, emotions high and tempers simmering. The joust ends up in a brawl and one side wanting blood.

Joust 6:00 pm 2008 : In the previous joust, Sir Rodrick let's his pride get better of him, due to the embarrassing butt kicking he got from Sir William. For this, Sir Rodrick demands the fight to the death. Sir William reluctantly agrees and Queen Margaret permits it. At the start of this joust, King Henry VIII asks if there is any way to solve this without bloodshed, but Sir Rodrick will have no part of it. Even Sir William sees there will be no end to this feud until either Sir Rodrick or he are dead. The joust begins with a small test of skill and the jousting begins. After several passes Sir William and Sir Rodrick are fighting on the ground with swords. When all is said and done, one knight rides off and one knight is carried out.

Wares & Exhibits 2008 : Besides the performances and a lot of people going around saying, "My Lord" or "My Lady", or "Good Day", there are a lot of shops selling various wares and services. Some shops sell trinkets, bobbles, chimes, wind spinners, character drawings, wooden swords, foam swords, and a lot of other things. There are also others that have actual works of art, such as bronze statues and glass vases that are, well, a bit above my tax bracket. The wood carvings, however, are not so pricey. Here are a few of the wares and exhibits you might find.
